Welcome to the City of Woodland!

This small, single-family residential community is known for its beautiful natural setting. Although relatively close to Minneapolis, Woodland’s quiet, winding, tree-lined streets feel miles away from the urban area.

Since it was settled in 1882 and incorporated in 1948, the residents of Woodland have guarded its trees, topography and the lake. Lush wooded areas and spontaneous vegetation growth are more common here than typical suburban landscaping. More than half of Woodland’s homes have access to Lake Minnetonka. Many residences are on large lots of two acres or more. A charming exception is the Groveland Assembly Ground, a 41-home, lakeside community that evolved from an early 1900s Methodist summer retreat campground: tent sites turned to summer cottages, to year-round homes.

With fewer than 500 residents, Woodland is a Statutory City, with an elected Mayor and four City Council Members. The City is administered from the Deephaven City Hall by an appointed Clerk. Woodland contracts with the Deephaven Police and Wayzata Fire Departments for public safety services. Zoning is coordinated by contract with Deephaven. Engineering and public works are provided through contract with private vendors. Woodland is part of the Minnetonka School District.

In short, a rich history, a love of wildlife and natural surroundings, and a desire to protect the lake and land make the City of Woodland unique and special to its residents.
